Week Two
I Have a Dream...
I Can Get By With a Little Help From My Friends
After reading the material for this week, I realized that we can dream, brainstorm, and set goals all day long, but we need the desire and motivation to move forward and pursue them. It is easy to say that, at the end of the day, if we achieve our goal or our dream, we did it all on our own, but that is simply not the case. There are times when blood, sweat, and tears are often followed by our mistakes and our failures. We may fail countless times before realizing that we need to ask for help, or support, to just take the next step or look at our plan in a different way.
Brainstorming, Dreams, and Goals are great starting points in our adventure. When we have this outlook, the road or map ahead of us can often be blank, and the path is yet to be discovered. When viewed this way, it may look like a long hallway with doors on either side, and all we need to do is pick a door and follow through with it. However, there are often more than a few good choices, and sometimes the door doesn't even open for us when we want it to. Sometimes, we just need to be patient and wait for doors to open so that we can go through them.
We can do it on our own, but it's so much better to ask for help and see who else may have the same dream or a similar one. "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together." - Andrew Whitby. When we reach out for support or form a team to create or develop something, we are making the choice to fail together and make mistakes together and also have an incredible amount of fun along the way, unless there are those who you are working with who are making the experience very undesirable. Their choice to be negative can create a negative environment. When you work on a team, you all may have different parts of the dream, but you all need to brainstorm to get the idea into a product or for the idea to become a reality. This reality or this product may be greater than what you originally might have imagined.
In our lives, often the original dreams that we may have had can change. This is both based on things within our own control and things that are not in our control at all. We can also shift our focus and realize that our original dream was a good starting point, but our lives are going in a completely different direction than what we had imagined. We can also change our dreams if there are circumstances in our lives that are causing hard times or harm; we can change our focus, and even though we may be doing difficult things, they can often be the best things for us, where we can learn and grow from these experiences and be the best version of ourselves. The person who is prepared in ways that the original dreamer wasn't. The reality may have been way more difficult, but someone who was able to withstand it and look back and understand the ups and downs of the journey will see the vista at the top of the mountain and know they are a stronger individual for going through the tougher experiences.
