Success in a Million Steps

The Steps of Success

After this week's reading, it was interesting to note that the focus of success wasn't necessarily the accolades and work success.  It came down to self-worth, the satisfaction that comes from making a true effort to complete the task, and the sacrifices that accompany that effort.  We may not see longer-lasting success for a while, as some of the required steps take time and energy to complete.

I have recently noticed in my own life that when I have given myself a set of tasks to do during the day, and I make a consistent effort to complete those tasks, then the feelings of satisfaction are far more worthwhile than if I do the to-do list and don't complete anything on my list.  I have a habit of having a To Done list.  I write down all the things I have accomplished during the day so that at the end of the day, I can see how much I have accomplished. This also helps me to plan for the next day because I can realize that I can do so much more in a day than I think I can.

The things that can seem so overwhelming to me are the things that I want to tackle the most.  I know in those instances I need to take one step at a time instead of looking at the whole staircase.  Breaking the job down into smaller tasks also helps give a focus to each part of the task to ensure that it's done efficiently and effectively.  Understanding that by doing each part of the task, I will be able to make it up the stairs at a pace that is realistic to me.

There is a value to our success.  It may seem like there is an earthly value; however, we should be focused on our eternal success.  What we learn in this life and work in this life will be what sustains us in our eternal lives.
