Growing up, I had a lot of goals and expectations set out for myself. I pictured living in a big house with a slurpee machine. I thought it would be a big deal to have a full-sized library in my home that was bigger than the library in The Beauty and the Beast. I dreamed that I would get married, have a family, and I wanted to live in the country for a very long time.
I didn't anticipate in the slightest that my life would turn out very differently from those dreams, and I would have to deal with several difficult health challenges that would cause me to pause and pivot on my original dreams.
One of the things I have learned as I have become an adult is that I can still have the dreams I once had as a child. I may not have a Slurpee machine in my house, but I do have a library that suits my needs. I also have a career in the library field that provides the beauty of a library in its own way.
I also started to understand the power of planning ahead and making efforts to be consistent and work hard to achieve the daily goals I set for myself. I have also come to understand that some things take a little bit longer to achieve than others.
The one word that comes to mind at this time in my life is ENDURE. Sometimes you just have to keep going and getting through each day. I have also learned that my dreams have evolved and they are so much better than I could have originally imagined. I may not be married yet or have a home in the country with a big family, but I have found friends who have become family and have had experiences that have shown me that I have become a far greater person than I could have even imagined for myself. I may not have superpowers or abilities, but I have gifts and talents that have carried me through and helped me become the person that I am meant to be.
