I always think that mastering a habit means that once you've worked through every other habit, you can sit
back and enjoy the fruits of your labour. But at that point, if you are not continuously working on what
you've worked on, you can start to decline and may regain all your bad habits.
When that happens, it may be more difficult to get back on the horse and try again.
Mastery is a continuous improvement. It is an opportunity to continue to learn and develop the knowledge needed to build on the skills you have already attained. We get it in our brains that we should achieve some sort of perfection.
Self-Mastery is the opportunity to improve upon what you’ve already accomplished. It takes those goals and habits you have already started and celebrated the little successes with to the point where those habits have become a part of your life.
Mastery allows you to self-reflect, take an inner look at what you have accomplished and see where you can improve on the minute details of the skill or ability. In those moments, you can choose to abandon completely what you have accomplished or take it to the next level and work harder and study more to continuously refine and polish the skills that you have attained.
When you are mastering your habit, you have a choice to continue to put effort into what you are doing. You not only show yourself, but you also show those around you (friends and family) that you enjoy what you are doing, and you enjoy the accomplishment, but you want to become a student of greatness, and continue to become the best version of yourself.
