BUILDING THE (BUSINESS) LIFE YOU WANT
When I decided to take this course, I planned to develop a creative idea, start a business, and bring a product to market. I thought it would be a great way to build a side hustle and earn a little extra income to save for a rainy day. However, I was deeply mistaken. I forgot that part of the process in becoming an entrepreneur is taking on the tasks and understanding who you are becoming as a person.
We spend the majority of our lives reaching towards goals and outcomes, graduations, careers, and family. We don’t necessarily think about the day-to-day efforts and sacrifices we make or who we may interact with that can change the trajectory of our lives. We don’t take into consideration the extra time we spend commuting or the daily spreadsheet, the meeting, or even what we have for lunch. However, we should understand that the extra time on the road or time in a meeting takes away from the true things that can matter in our lives. The people that we go home to see at the end of the day.
It also takes someone who will reflect on things they know and consider all the things they have learned and experienced as they decide to pursue a new career path and be an entrepreneur on their own to realize that they didn’t get to where they are by themselves. If they understand that the skills and experience can support them in their next endeavour, they are more willing to pass on their education and experiences to others. If they have achieved success in this aspect, they not only will be successful themselves, but they will have brought those they have worked with and supported to achieve their own success. They will also have opportunities to look beyond themselves and see how their influence has impacted others.
Entrepreneurship isn’t just about building your own business. It’s about becoming the person who is the best version of themselves and lifting and supporting others.
